Jennifer Lipack LMHC | CASAC | MSW, provides Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling services for the following in the Long Island/ NYC Area:
ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION
In our office, there is no judging of one’s character or mental condition. You should not feel stigmatized just because you may have feelings of anxiety or depression. In fact, both of these conditions are much more commonplace than you might imagine. Feelings of grief suffered by the loss of a loved one can lead to feelings of depression, and concern about one’s family and economic situation can lead to feelings of helplessness, and ultimately depression. Simultaneously, people who suffer through depression will often exhibit signs of anxiety, which may manifest itself in a variety of forms (i.e. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)
In today’s society, many individuals (especially women) view the unrealistic image of what a healthy person should look like as portrayed by the media. Unfortunately, many believe that to be emaciated and underweight is the key to success and personal happiness. The truth is that images seen throughout the media, and possibly the negative influences of others, can lead to a person developing one of several eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia, or binge eating. Many eating disorders have a pronounced psychological component, and many times are influenced by an unhealthy image of one’s body. As a counselor who has aided many people suffering from eating disorders, we will work together to assist you in your struggle with eating disorders and help you gain balance in your life. Most importantly, we will strive so you have a healthy psychological profile when it concerns how you view your physical appearance.
GRIEF AND LOSS
There is no one “correct” way to deal with the loss of a loved one, whether a family member or a close friend. The grieving process is very individualized, and a person handles it in their own way. However, there are patterns of behavior when coping with grief that can have a negative effect on one’s physical and mental health. Jennifer Lipack Counseling truly understands the grieving process, and the fact that it takes time, and requires the patience of other family members and friends. Those who are important to the grieving individual need to empathize with the person who has suffered a loss, and my services can help you and those who are important in your life to get through this most difficult time; and hopefully become a stronger person after the grieving and mourning have subsided.
EFFECT ON YOUR RELATIONSHIPS
The above disorders all have a direct impact on our relationships with others, especially those we love such our family or our close friends. Whether it is depression, alcohol or substance abuse, or one of the various eating disorders, these conditions can overrun one’s life and daily activities. As a result, those who suffer are not only the ones afflicted with the condition, but those who strive to be a source of comfort and strength. Jennifer Lipack Counseling takes this component of treatment very seriously, and will assist you and those who care about you the most when it concerns relationships and keeping them healthy and strong in the face of adversity. It can be tough at times, but ultimately, with the help of a caring mental health counselor, this challenge can be met with head-on. When it comes right down to it, life is really about you and the ones you love, and how to keep those bonds strong even when there are various obstacles which must be dealt with in your everyday life.
